Reducing waste is a responsibility for everyone these days, and there are many steps that you can take in your office to cut the amount of waste you use and make significant savings. Here are a few ideas that you can implement today that will make a big difference to the environment and will save you money.
Reduce Paper and Ink Usage
One way that you can quickly make savings is through using less paper and ink. You can do this by printing on both sides of the paper and by always printing in draft mode wherever possible. Also try to send documents electronically rather than printing them out.
Recycle Your Old Cartridges
If you print out a lot of documents at work, you may find the empty ink cartridges piling up after a while. Instead of throwing these away, find somewhere to recycle them instead. You can easily recycle empty Brother cartridges and other brands so that they can be refilled and used again, cutting down on waste and extending the life of the cartridges.
Recycle Your e-Waste
You can often recycle computers and electrical equipment rather than throwing it away. E-waste is a big problem for the environment, so contact the manufacturer to find out if they will take your old equipment back to recycle or reuse it. You may also find an organisation in your area who will collect your equipment and make sure it is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
Join a Paper Recycling Scheme
Increase the amount of paper you recycle by joining a paper recycling scheme. Look for a scheme in your area, and you can arrange for someone to pass by the office every week or two to collect your waste paper. Also make sure you place recycling bins around the office to make it easier for your employees to recycle paper rather than throwing it in the bin.
Buy Recycled Paper
As well as recycling your own paper, make an effort to buy paper that is made from recycled materials. Recycled paper is just as good as other paper, and the quality does not have to be affected just because it is recycled.
Encourage Staff to Recycle At Work
If you want to promote more recycling at work, you should give your employees encouragement. Set up bins for the recycling of glass, metal, cardboard and batteries, and encourage your employees to dispose of their own items in these bins.
Sell or Donate Old Furniture & Equipment
When you want to get rid of your furniture or other equipment in the office, rather than throwing it away, sell it or donate it. You may be able to sell it online, or you could donate it to a charity so that it can be used again rather than becoming waste.
Reduce Waste and Save Money
These are just a few of the ways that you can reduce the amount of waste you produce in your office. Implementing some or all of these measures can help to reduce your environmental impact as well as cut costs, both of which are excellent reasons to start reducing waste at work today.
