Sales Glossary, Sales
Dictionary or Sales Encyclopedia?
Wondering what the difference is between the terms sales
glossary, sales dictionary and sales encyclopedia? They are all related terms,
best differentiated by their scope of content.
A sales encyclopedia is the broadest category. One
definition for encyclopedia is “a literary work giving information on all
branches or knowledge or of one subject, usually arranged alphabetically”. In
years past encyclopedia sets were sold by door-to-door salespeople. A well
known on-line encyclopedia is Wikipedia.com.
A sales dictionary is narrower in focus. A definition for dictionary
is “a book explaining, usually in alphabetical order, the words of a language
or words and topics of some special subject, author, etc.” Many of will
remember referring to a dictionary in school.
A sales glossary is even further narrowed. A glossary
definition is a “list and explanations of abstruse, obsolete, dialectal, or
technical terms, partial dictionary.” Salesopedia boasts the most comprehensive
sales glossary on the internet.
