I went to see the environmental film "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore last week. I admit, before I went I wasn't that excited.. and then I thought "Hey -I AM curious to see what he has to say!"
NOW - I say... Run, Walk, Take The Bus to see this film as soon as possible! I think everyone on the PLANET should see it. And as a former network television sales executive I don't say that lightly.
I Diva Dare you to go. I ran there in high heels and didn't even get a blister!
There are many reasons why I loved the film. One of the most important
to me was that the film makers understand the philosophy of "Show and
Share " (vs Show and Tell)
Here are 5 Truths You Can Learn from "An Inconvenient Truth":
Show - Don't Tell. A picture is worth a thousand words. All the stats in the world don't mean a damn thing unless people actually FEEL
something. How are you creating and painting a picture for your clients
and potential customers? What emotions does your website evoke? Your
marketing materials? How do people respond when they meet you in
person?
Info Dumps Are Garbage. At all those networking events are you
talking constantly about yourself or are you asking questions of
others? Take a cue from your audience. If their eyes are glazing over -
they are thinking "How Can I Get Away From Her??"...and this doesn't
lead to strong client relationships!
Challenge Yourself. When was the last time you did something
different? Took a chance on a new idea? Called someone you didn't know?
Followed up with a client you dropped the ball on? If you sit still and
be complacent the world will passsssssssssssss you by girl and you will
be invisible to your customers. When was the last time you failed? (If
it was too long ago then you aren't risking enough)
Take A Stand. News flash. You can't be everything to everyone. I
repeat - you can't be everything to everyone! Will you please choose a
target audience and stick with it? Who cares if everyone doesn't like
you? (Hint - they weren't the best fit for you anyway!)
Ask For The Business. Al Gore asked for the viewers of the film
to write letters. Change their lifestyle. Speak up and out. Take
action. How are you asking your customers to choose you? Are you afraid
to ask for the order? If you appear indecisive and unsure about asking
customers to choose you - they WON'T choose you as they won't trust
you!
So please tell all your friends and go see the film.
http://www.climatecrisis.net (It may take a few seconds to load as it
is a very popular site right now!) Let me know if you loved it or hated
it. It doesn't matter - as either way - you'll have done some thinking
in the process. And see what you can apply to YOUR business.
