Your Greatest Challenge Print
Written by Billy Cox

As we prepare to enter a New Year filled with opportunity, I would like to give you your most important challenge. That challenge is…as you enter the New Year commit to living up to your full potential.

A year ago, almost everyone thought that Brett Farve, Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, should have retired. Brett had just finished one of the worst seasons in his career and the Green Bay Packers had missed the playoffs two years in a row. Brett thought differently and he made a commitment to play another year. However, a commitment without action is only a good intention. Brett took action and he backed up his commitment with his outstanding performance. This season, he has broken several National Football League (NFL) records including most touchdown passes and most passing yards ever. His performance helped the Packers finish 2007 with their best regular season record in franchise history. This year instead of sitting at home while other teams march towards the Super Bowl, at 37 years of age, “old” Brett Farve is preparing to lead his team into the playoffs.

As a Texan, I’ve always been a Dallas Cowboys fan. Until recently, I couldn’t imagine thinking and writing something positive about Brett Farve. However, seeing Brett make a comeback and prove the naysayers wrong inspires me. And, chances are his story inspires you too. Why? The reason is that deep inside of us we all want to prove we can rise above our current circumstances and make our future much greater than anything we have experienced in the past.

A New Year is the best possible time to examine what you have accomplished, where you are, and where you need to go. Are you really satisfied with your level of performance, achievements, and results? Give that important question some serious thought. If you are dissatisfied with your accomplishments or the lack thereof, then ask yourself, based on your ability, what do you need to do to change?

Unless you commit to achieving excellence and take positive steps to upgrade your life, 2008 will be just another year of average performance. If you are really serious about starting to earn what you are capable of earning and growing to your full potential, You Can Do It. And 2008 can be your best year ever.

It does not take a special man or woman to achieve success. It takes a man or woman with a special commitment. A commitment that asks the question, “How good can I really be if I will make a real commitment to improve? More importantly, how can I discipline myself to take the necessary actions so that I give my very best?”

Success is never given, it is earned. A person never achieves challenging goals, wealth, and opportunity without sacrifice and commitment. So reach deep down inside and ask yourself – ‘If I keep doing what I have been doing, where will it get me?” Then ask yourself, “If I make some positive changes where could I be one year from now?”

Your future can be much greater than anything you have ever experienced in the past. But, you will not attain this feat by going about your life ‘business as usual.’ To achieve your future dreams and goals, you must have an attitude and commitment to grow.

So as we embark on 2008, your greatest challenge is to make a commitment that this year will be your best ever. Then, backup that decision by doing whatever it takes to make your commitment a reality.

You can change, grow, and succeed by doing what Brett Farve did a year ago…making a commitment that will take the circumstances you have and use them to build towards your greatest success. This year will be your best year ever if you choose to make it so.

By the way...Go Cowboys!
